Arctic LTER: Datasets available on-line.

The long-term data sets of the Arctic LTER include both the monitoring data and data from the whole ecosystem manipulations in tundra, lakes and streams. Data can be browse by research theme or project and by the five LTER Network core research areas.

Description

Circumpolar Geobotanical Atlas

 

The Circumpolar Arctic Geobotanical Atlas is a web-based multi-scale collection of geobotanical maps and related material.  It includes maps at eight different scales, from 1-mē plots to the entire Arctic. Much of the early work was done by Donald (Skip) Walker (Alaska Geobotany Center, University of Alaska, Fairbanks, AK) and others at Toolik Lake and Imnavait Creek.

 

Arctic System Science (ARCSS

 

Many of the Geobotanical's maps are available as ARC/INFO files through a link to the Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Data Coordination Center.

Toolik Field Station GIS

 

The Toolik Field Station GIS was developed with support from NSF-Office of Polar Programs to help manage and support research based at the Field Station including LTER research.

Satellite images

 

The LTER Network Office has acquired Satellite images of the Toolik area.  These images are available and include landsat and SPOT images.

Water chemistry data:  NH4+, NO3-, PO4, total dissolved nitrogen, particulate phosphorus, particulate nitrogen, and particulate carbon. One file per lake per year.

Physical and chemical

Temperature, oxygen, pH, conductivity, light, cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+), anions (SO42-, Cl-), and alkalinity. One file per lake per year.

Fish

Year & Lake

Fish number, recapture number, species, lengths and weights of lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush), arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus), round whitefish (Prosopium cylindraceum) burbot (Lota lota) and arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus ). One file per lake sampled per year.

Plankton

Year

Picoplankton, microplankton and zooplankton data of water column profiles and densities for all lakes sampled in a given year.

Bacteria

Bacteria samples taken from Toolik Lake.

General Ecosystem Model (MBL-GEM)

Multiyear

MBL-GEM is a process-based model of C-N interactions in terrestrial ecosystems. The model is intended to be generally applicable to most terrestrial ecosystems and, in its original form, has been used to analyze the responses of temperate deciduous forests, tropical evergreen forests, and arctic tundra to changes in CO2 concentration, temperature, N inputs, irradiance, and soil moisture.

Plant Biomass, Chemistry

Biomass harvests; includes several tundra types (heath, wet sedge, acidic and non acidic mesic tussock, shrub), treated and untreated plots and woody stem biomass. Percent carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, leaf area, stem biomass and carbon flux were also measured for several of the harvests.
