Methods:

The response of fish to fertilization was determined by monitoring adult grayling from control and fertilized river reaches. In early July, four fish weirs were constructed in each zone. Adult fish in each section were weighed, measured, tagged and released. Fish densities were manipulated in each segment so that there was one section with ambient (10 fish per km) density and one section with high (50 fish per km) density. In August, tagged fish were recaptured to measure growth of individual fish.

Notes: Many D/D and RECAPD/D locations are estimated, because notes were kept regarding zones fish were captured in, not specific locations. Unless a specific location was given, the following estimates were used: HDC, D/D=-0.8K; LDC, D/D=-1; ADC, D/D=-1.5K; Control Zone, D/D=-0.1; HDF, D/D=4.0; LDF, D/D=3.6; ADF, D/D=3.0.

On 4 August, 1988, flooding of the river resulted in most of the weirs being overtopped. Recapture length and weight measurements are not available for fish which escaped at this time.
