Conditions of Use

The re-use of scientific data has the potential to greatly increase communication, collaboration and synthesis within and among disciplines, and thus is fostered, supported and encouraged. Permission to use this dataset is granted to the Data User free of charge subject to the following terms:

1) Acceptable use. Use of the dataset will be restricted to academic, research, educational, government, recreational, or other not-for-profit professional purposes. The Data User is permitted to produce and distribute derived works from this dataset provided that they are released under the same license terms as those accompanying this Data Set. Any other uses for the Data Set or its derived products will require explicit permission from the dataset owner.
2 ) Redistribution. The data are provided for use by the Data User. The metadata and this license must accompany all copies made and be available to all users of this Data Set. The Data User will not redistribute the original Data Set beyond this collaboration sphere.
3 ) Citation. It is considered a matter of professional ethics to acknowledge the work of other scientists. Thus, the Data User will properly cite the Data Set in any publications or in the metadata of any derived data products that were produced using the Data Set. Citation should take the following general form: Creator, Year of Data Publication, Title of Dataset, Publisher, Dataset identifier. For example:

4 ) Acknowledgement. Notification will include an explanation of how the Data Set was used to produce the derived work.
6 ) Collaboration. The Data Set has been released in the spirit of open scientific collaboration. Data Users are thus strongly encouraged to consider consultation, collaboration and/or co-authorship with the Data Set Creator.

By accepting this Data Set, the Data User agrees to abide by the terms of this agreement. The Data Owner shall have the right to terminate this agreement immediately by written notice upon the Data User's breach of, or non-compliance with, any of its terms. The Data User may be held responsible for any misuse that is caused or encouraged by the Data User's failure to abide by the terms of this agreement.

Abstract:	Samples from designated stations from Oksrukuyik Creek were collected during each summer from 2003 to current time. Sampling stations are in the reference reach of the stream, upstream of the point of phosphorus addition that occurred from 1991-1996. Nutrients analyzed by manual chemistry from Oksrukuyik Creek during the summer of 2003 to current time. Three sampling dates occurred each summer; once each in June, July, and August. Water samples were analyzed for soluble reactive phosphate, ammonium, and nitrate.

Organisms studied
Methods:	Water samples were collected at designated stations along the Kuparuk River. Sample reaches include a reference reach upstream of the original phosphorus dripper, a recovery reach that has not had phosphorus added since 1996, and a fertilized reach that has had phosphorus added since 1983. Water was filtered through a 25mm GF/F filter in the field; samples were analyzed upon return to Toolik Field Station for soluble reactive phosphate and ammonium, using manual chemistry methods listed in the LTER database protocols. SRP was analyzed using a Cary spectrophotometer. Ammonium was analyzed using a fluorometric method (Holmes et al. 1999). Nitrate/nitrite samples were frozen and run using the QuikChem METHOD 31-1-7-04-1-C on a Lachat at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. See current protocols at http://ecosystems.mbl.edu/ARC Notes: 2004 --- June and July nitrate values were analyzed on samples that had been acidified and refrigerated prior to analysis. We experienced comtamination in the tubes used for nitrate samples, so analyzed water intended for other analyses. Samples were run on the lachat using a standard curve acidified to the same pH as the samples. 2005 ---- Morgan Johnson of Breck Bowden's lab analyzed the June NH4 and SRP samples. 2006 ---- July 2006 NH4 data missing; samples not analyzed. 2006 NO3 samples have not been analyzed as of November 1, 2006. 2007 --- added 2006 NO3 data, added all 2007 data 2008 --- updated all - EBS 2009 --- updated through 2009 - EBS 2010 --- added 2000-2002 data - EBS
