PIE Microbial Genomics

Many studys have been conducted in the Plum Island estuary and associated watersheds producing genomic sequence information for microbial populations. Upon publication of manuscripts the sequence data becomes available through GenBank repositories by referencing the published "Accession Numbers". Often times researchers also need additional environmental information/data about conditions during or leading up to the microbial sampling. The associated environmental data is considered metadata for the microbial sequences. PIE researchers are working on providing the associated environmental data for the genomic data, with the goal of providing minimum information about a marker gene sequence (MIMARKS), a standard developed by the Genomics Standards Consortium (GSC).

PIE currently has compiled a microbial genomic reference data file, PIE-Microbe-Genomics, to assist researchers in finding information about what microbial genomic research has occurred in the Plum Island area and how to access sequence data.

File Description
PIE-Microbe-Genomics
Microbial genomic information for studies associated with PIE LTER. This file is purely descriptive, including the following information: bacterial genome citations, sequence accession numbers, study type, location, habitat and descriptive environmental conditions
