Methods:

Stage height measurements, taken at
the water line, were read from a measuring stick placed vertically
on the upstream side between the two culverts. the readings were in
centimeters up from the bottom of the river.

Notes: A new discharge rating curve has been calculated for
1991 using the six discharge measurements taken in 1990 along
with four discharge measurements taken in 1991. The four discharge
measurments taken in 1991 are significantly different from those taken in
1990. Since we are not confident that these four numbers give us
sufficient information concerning the discrepancy between 1990 and 1991
we have plotted the two years together using all ten measurements.
A greater number of discharge readings will be taken in 1992 to help
determine if the 1991 data are indicative of a change in the culvert or
if the discrepancy between 1990 and 1991 is a result of sampling
problems.
The percent error between measured discharges and those predicted using
the new rating curve is between 22% at lower stage heights (80-100 cm)
and 1% at higher stage heights (150 cm), with predicted values being
lower than measured values.
Discharge calibration measurements were taken at 60% of depth at 0.5
meter increments along a cross sectional transect of the river, just
downstream of the culverts at the pipeline crossing. Measurements were
taken using a Gurley meter. Raw data from the calibration measurements
are available.
