Current Weather Reports

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Alaska maintains a number of  telemetry precipitation gages fitted with Wyoming wind shields.  Following is the locations of some of the telemetry sites, notes on the precipitation readings and a link to the NRCS data web pages.

  • Precipitation is measured with a pressure transducer. The readings are depth measurements which increase as the gage accumulates precipitation. Antifreeze in the gage melts any snow fall and  mineral oil has been added to prevent evaporation. Readings may fluctuate 1 or 2 tenths of an inch due to diurnal temperature changes or barometric pressure changes.
  • Imnavait Creek is about 12 km to the east and 200 m higher in elevation than Toolik Lake.
