Modeled diurnal change in water-column dissolved oxygen in the Parker River Estuary along the salinity gradient. Scientists use these diurnal oxygen changes to estimate estuarine metabolism, including respiration, gross primary production, and net community production



Several dawn and dusk dissolved oxygen transects along the estuarine salinity gradient. Note the low oxgyen in the morning after a night of respiration, and the higher oxgyen in the evening following a day of photosynthesis in the water.
