BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DATA FILE: Metabolism (24 hour) water collection using an ISCO autosampler deployed at the confluence of Nelson Creek during fall equinox period of equal daylight and darkness. Samples filtered in lab and analyzed for salinity, chla and dissolved nutrients.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN AND METHODS: ISCO autosampler deployed at the confluence of Nelson Creek. Water samples collected every hour for 24 hours to include two full tidal cycles. Collection period designed to correspond with time of year during which there are equal hours of daylight and darkness. Data collection began at low tide (around dusk) and continued to monitor water quality and collect hourly water samples for nutrient analysis for the next 24 hours. YSI deployment for Nelson Creek from 9/26/03 to 9/28/03 was unsuccesful due to a software error in sonde AB. Nutrient samples were collected but no YSI data is available. To make up for the lost data an additional deployment was planned for 10/03/03 to 10/07/03 using sonde AA. Depth was not enabled but the ADCP unit was deployed alongside the YSI (secured to the ADCP rack). Data from this second deployment is available in file CH-NE-met YSI-2003.xls.

Water samples transported back to the lab for salinity reading using refractometer and filtration for nutrient subsampling. Filter collected for dissolved chl a. Nutrient samples frozen until time of analysis.

All analysis conducted at the MBL according to standard lab procedures (see methods).
